COACHING FUNDAMENTALS (CF)

Our program is designed for today’s leaders, managers, employees, and individuals who are interested in enhancing their personal and professional effectiveness. It is also designed for those who coach and train people professionally. Coaching Fundamentals is the core module of TAG’s Coaching for Results (CFR) program. In Coaching Fundamentals you will begin to develop the skills and competencies necessary to effectively coach and develop others.

The Objectives

As a result of Coaching Fundamentals, participants will:

  • learn to apply unique and powerful coaching methods;
  • develop fundamental core coaching competencies;
  • practice and enhance high-impact coaching skills and techniques;
  • expand the ability to actively listen and respond effectively;
  • practice coaching and receive feedback on your coaching.

The Importance of Coaching

Coaching is one of the most indispensable skills for today’s leaders and those who choose to enhance their potential both personally and professionally. Today’s leading companies are committed to becoming “learning organizations” yet many are not sure how to institutionalize learning throughout their organizations. Two essential keys for continuous learning and improvement include enhanced coaching skills and a highly competent coaching mindset.

COACHING FOR RESULTS (CFR)

CFR is an exciting and intensive coach training program designed to develop both the “being” and “doing” of coaching. It is specifically designed to dramatically enhance the coaching mindset, qualities, skills, experience, and presence of each participant. The program is created around the TAG coaching model which utilizes experiential learning to introduce, explore and reinforce new concepts and approaches as it relates to coaching. This proven philosophy assists participants in developing and achieving a high level of competency in their ability to successfully coach a wide variety of clients.

All TAG programs are experiential in nature and are based upon participation and practical experience as the most effective means of learning. Therefore, participants have extensive opportunities to experience coaching and receive feedback on their coaching. TAG is committed to those learning to coach and those seeking to master their coaching skills. The following is our commitment and represents a brief overview of the CFR coaching process called GIFTS:

  • Grow a partnership: Learn and become skilled and proficient at building and maintaining trust in relationships and create a context of safety in the coaching relationship.
  • Inspire commitment: Evoke in clients a deep connection to what they want. Develop strong listening skills and the ability to ask powerful questions that support clients in designing actions that produce meaningful results.
  • Facilitate learning: Create awareness of perspectives, beliefs, paradigms, and distinctions that allow clients to increase their capacity to accomplish desired results. Develop skills and explore new ideas and solutions as well as creating action plans that effectively move clients toward their stated goals.
  • Transfer learning technology: Learn to create an environment of personal responsibility and leadership. Supporting the client to build new competencies that ensure their ability to learn how to learn.
  • Shape the environment: Transform the way individuals “see” and take action in their personal and professional life. Learn to be a positive influence in relationships and the environment.

Prerequisite for CFR

A fundamental philosophy at TAG is that an effective coach is highly aware of him or herself, they are dedicated to personal and professional development, and are committed to making a difference and serving others. Therefore, we highly recommend that applicants for CFR have a foundation of learning in the area of personal transformation and leadership development. During CFR, participants will have the experience and benefits of being coached in all areas of life for a minimum of 20 weeks. We believe this provides the necessary foundation for becoming a powerful and effective coach.

CFR CORE CURRICULUM

Each CFR program functions as an intact team. This distinguishes our program from most coach training programs in that all our participants and coaches are committed to completing the entire core curriculum together. This commitment allows participants to achieve a greater level of trust and intimacy and allows an accelerated and deepening of learning in the core coaching competencies and expands participants’ way of “being” as a coach. In addition to developing individual coaching skills, participants will have the added benefit of functioning as a high-performing team. The following are key components of the CFR core curriculum:

  1. Coach Training Sessions: Over the course of 6 months participants will attend 5 three-day coach training sessions, complete 126 hours of classroom education, teaching all of the International Coach Federation (ICF) core competencies as well as the unique TAG methodologies. Our intention is to build a strong foundation in the core coaching competencies as well as challenge coaches to develop their own unique coaching presence and style.
  2. Triad Coaching: There are weekly 1½ hour triad meetings throughout the 6-month program. Participants have the opportunity to put into practice the skills they are developing. Each participant coaches a member of their triad, while another member observes and provides feedback. After each coach participates in the three roles there is a debriefing and constructive feedback is given to assist in the development and growth of coaches. This unique learning environment supports the continuation of personal development and deepens the learning which broadens the coach’s experience. This results in over 30 hours of practical application.
  3. Clients: All participants are encouraged to create at least 2 paying clients that they will coach throughout the CFR program. As in developing any skill this also requires practice. We have found that participants will effectively integrate classroom learning by creating more opportunities to coach and receive feedback on coaching.
  4. CFR Team Project: As a team, participants create a coaching project within an organization on a pro bono basis. This requires a joint effort of the entire team to enroll an organization as a client, explore and listen to the client’s needs, define the nature and scope of the coaching project as stated by the client, create a coaching agreement and complete the team project prior to the completion of CFR. Each member of the team will provide a minimum of 2 hours of individual or group coaching. The intention of the project is to be in service to an organization while contributing to the community and creating a greater awareness of the difference coaching can make.

CERTIFICATION PROGRAMME

Our vision and mission are to create a community of professional coaches dedicated to making a difference in the lives of their clients. The Certification Programme is a rigorous and challenging process designed for people who are committed to their continued personal and professional development. The program supports the integration of the knowledge and experience gained through participation in the core curriculum. On successful completion of the Certification, Program coaches will achieve the distinction of a Certified Professional Mastery Coach (CPMC). The following are the key components of the Certification program:

  • The program is 20 weeks long and coaches must plan to spend a minimum of 3 hours per week on certification in addition to coaching clients.
  • Participation in 16 of the 20 weekly triad coaching sessions;
  • Create a minimum of 5 paying clients to coach throughout the certification process;
  • Complete a minimum of 100 paid coaching hours;
  • Complete 6 supervised coaching calls;
  • Create a mentor coaching relationship with an approved TAG certified coach;
  • Meet with a mentor coach for a minimum of 6 hours;
  • Successfully complete both the written and oral exams;
  • And we highly recommend that you complete the Mastery Programme.

The standards for successful completion of CFR and becoming a TAG certified coach are based upon the International Coach Federation (ICF) coaching competencies and requirements for credentialing. We believe our program meets and exceeds the ICF’s requirements for individual certification and every TAG certified coach that applied for credentialing to the ICF has successfully achieved certification.
